IIFA Awards Head to Singapore

The International Indian Film Academy, also known as IIFA, announced last Wednesday that the 13th annual IIFA Awards will take place in Singapore this year from June 7th to 9th.

For the past 12 years, this Bollywood award extravaganza has taken Indian cinema to glamorous pinnacles beyond national shores. Last year’s awards ceremony took place in Toronto, Canada. They’ve also been held in China, Europe, and the Middle, East. This is the second time the awards ceremony will take place in Thailand.

Presented by Videocon Industries and Wizcraft International Entertainment, Singapore is already gearing up for three action-packed days of glamour and fashion.

Last Wednesday, Bollywood superstars Anil Kapoor and Biphasha Basu were in Singapore to help promote and publicize the 2013 IIFAs. Kapoor, who readers may remember as the host from Slumdog Millionaire, praised Singapore for its progress and diversity.

“With the promise of bringing the best and the biggest of events to viewers in a manner that’s unique and entertaining, the IIFA Weekend and Awards have today become an iconic platform that the world respects,” Kapoor told media. “It has been my pleasure to be associated with IIFA for over a decade and once again, on behalf of IIFA and the Indian film industry, we commit to give our audience in Singapore the opportunity to witness one of the finest celebrations of culture and cinema ever held.”

Long-time IIFA supporter, former model and Bollywood beauty Bipasha added, “IIFA is the most respected cinema awards and something I look forward to every year. Having performed at several IIFAs, I know the celebrations to be simply outstanding. It’s a great opportunity for me to be here in Singapore personally to represent Indian Cinema on such a global platform. “

Come June 7th to 9th, Bollywood fans in Singapore will have a rare chance to get up close and personal with all their favourite stars of Indian cinema.

Features of this year’s three-day programme include the world premiere of a film, a musical show, and plenty of red carpet glamour—Bollywood style.
