Shilpa Unabashed Desire’s Sexy Scenes

Remember the last time we saw Shilpa Shetty? She was flouncing alongside Bollywood He-Man John Abraham on a beautiful beach in Dostana.

Although Shilpa was only in the film for an item number, the killer curves accentuated by her skimpy outfits garnered more attention than the actor probably ever imagined. Now it seems she’s on a mission to display more than her enviable figure.

The Desire is an Indo/Chinese joint production directed by R. Sarath and starring Chinese actor Xia Yu.  The story revolves around the story famous Chinese painter who is madly in love with Shilpa’s character, Gautami. The story is a touching chronicle of how a friendship between the duo evolves.

While the film has mostly been publicized for Shilpa’s bald portrayal, some attention is also being paid to the steamy interaction between the lead characters. This is a story of art, love, and music, and there are incendiary scenes.

Although Shilpa’s portrayal will almost certainly be criticized by puritanical throwbacks, she staunchly defends the artistic integrity of the movie: “”I had no qualms in doing these scenes as these sequences are an integral part of the film, and have been aesthetically shot,” says Shilpa.

Even though Shilpa is a trained bharatnatyam dancer, she worked hard to prepare for the role. Odissi dance guru Ratikant Mohapatra was impressed by her dedication and said, “my working experience with Shilpa Shetty was very good. She was able to understand the style and form of Odissi and its execution.”

Overall, the character of Gautami is poised to be one of the most interesting portrayed by the actress in her 17-year career. Shilpa was recently in New York promoting the film. The Desire has been selected for the New York City International Film Festival 2011, where it will be screened on August 24.

“The love story is beautiful and the passion between the two characters is almost like a painting,” says Shilpa. I would say that it’s my character, Gautami, who is bold, and not the scenes per se.”
