Gritty “Delhi Belly” Stirs India’s Youth
According to lead actor Imran Khan, Delhi Belly is a movie that pushes the envelope. It features some bold scenes and obscene language but is not a “sex comedy.”
The movie is already creating a stir in the film industry for its feature song Bhaag DK Bose. The track, written by lyricist Amitabh Bhattacharya, has become all the rage among India’s youth. According to critics: “The song is very youth centric and initially makes most think what the WTF?, but once the lyrics are clear it automatically falls into the cool category. It’s a smart song and deserves the attention it’s getting. Amitabh Bhattacharya outdid himself with this one.
The film is directed by Abhinay Deom, who, Aamir stated, “very aptly lead a superstar cast and crew to deliver the magic that had me laughing my head off when I read the initial script.”
Imran Khan also commented that he was keen to play the role of Kunal Roy Kapoor, even though he had to gain a lot of weight for the part.
Aamir has also been careful to maintain “there is no skin show in the movie, but it is bold and irreverent. It’s not meant for kids.” Delhi Belly is a comic caper targeting a young adult audience. “People who can’t identify with disrespectful or dirty language should stay away. It’s an adult film. But it was an amazing script and I just had to produce it.”
The movie has been given an A Rating (Adult) and the cast includes Imran Khan, Kunal Roy Kapoor, Poorna Jagannathan, Vir Das, and Shenaz Treasurywala.
