Sunny Deol Lends Voice to Animated Mahabharata
India’s animation industry is hard at work on an animated film of mythical proportions—the Mahabharata. The film is scheduled to be released this Diwali as competition to Shahrukh Khan’s sci-fi venture Ra.One.
Sunny Deol began the project after the release of Yamla Pagla Deewana and has already recorded the voice-over for the character of Bheem, the angry Gadadhari Pandav brother.
This animated feature is directed by Aman Khan and produced by Jayantilal Gada of Pen India, who approached Deol about the part. When asked about the project, Gada said, “Sunny has already recorded his part for the film, which has been in production for the last three years. It’s being created in Pen India’s in-house studio and contains elements of both 2D and 3D animation.”
Gada added they are still trying to attract well known stars for the film’s soundtrack: “right now we are presenting the film to everyone; this film is going to have a cast unlike any other animation created in India. There’s another 6-8 months of intensive animation work will be involved with the lip-sync animation, but this can only take place once recording is complete.”
With an epic cast for an epic story, it looks like the animated Mahabharata is targeting epic box-office success.
