Aamir Khan Plots Co-stars’ Dhoom
John Abraham and Hrithik Roshan have both assumed the mantle of the moustache-twirling Bollywood baddie, and now it seems it’s Aamir’s turn in Dhoom 3. Abhishek Bachchan and Uday Chopra will continue with their respective roles of Jai Dixit and Ali from the previous movies while Aamir assumes the role of foil and all round no-goodnik.
The career move is somewhat surprising for Aamir, who tends to gravitate towards projects that prominently feature him in the starring role. However, the actor experienced phenomenal success in recent films like Rand De Basanti and 3 Idiots that featured other big names, and now it seems it’s no holds barred.
Produced by Aditya Chopra and writer-director Vijay Krishna Acharya, Dhoom 3 is slated for release in December 2012. When talking to the media, Aamir stated: “it’s really nice to work with Yashraj again. Working on Dhoom is a great honour—it’s entertaining and full of fun. Every time I hear the theme music, it puts a swing in my step.”
Contrary to Aamir’s career trend, other big Bollywood actors, including Shahruhk, Salman, and Saif, seem set on proving their solo star power with upcoming projects like Dabangg 2, Ra.One, and Agent Vinod. An industry insider observed: “over the last few years, out of the Khan brigade, only Aamir has shown interest in working on films with a strong supporting cast. Dhoom 3 will be a new experience for Aamir, because he’ll be sharing equal camera time with the rest of the cast. This wasn’t the case in Rang de Basanti or Three Idiots—Aamir still had the upper hand, albeit slight.”
Audiences will have to wait till the film’s release to witness the many plot twists and turns, but there is speculation Khan’s character will be singing in Dhoom 3. The film’s heroine has yet to be named but the Bollywood buzz is that the role belongs to Katrina Kaif, Deepika Padukone, or Priyanka Chopra.
Film producer Yash Chopra told the reporters: “I’m terribly excited that Aamir Khan will be lending his unique star power to the Dhoom franchise.” Aamir has made his mark on the film industry by choosing roles with substance. Dhoom promises to be an entirely different experience for the actor, but fans seem excited about watching Aamir flex his muscles—acting and otherwise.
