Midnight’s Children: Deepa Mehta caught between two sisters!
The Salman Rushdie book Midnight’s Children is coming to life and this is being done by none other than Canadian director Deepa Mehta. Some of the Bollywood giants Deepa is considering to star in the screenplay include Amitabh Bachchan, Irrfan Khan and Rani Mukherjee. It is rumored that upon her visit to Mumbai recently, Deepa was also in talks with Vidya Balan over playing a role in the film. First reaction by Divya was of deep interest as she loved the script and thought it would be a great fit for her until she found out that Rani Mukherjee would be acting as her sister in the movie.
The two Bollywood stars, Rani and Vidya, have been at odds with one another since Rani was chosen over Vidya in Laaga Chunari Mein Daag. Deepa Mehta when offering these roles to the women was unaware of the past drama between the Rani and Divya. She has recently released the following statement hoping the two will agree to work on this unique screenplay together: “I see them as sisters. They are both lovely. I am dying to work with them together.”
