Gurinder Chadha: Back for “Afterlife” after “Beckham”
Ji Han! The talented Gurinder Chadha is back on the scene with another greatly anticipated comedy titled It’s a Wonderful Afterlife. The film has been selected to premiere at the 2010 Sundance Festival which is set to start on January 21. The cast of the film includes stars such as Shabana Azmi, Goldy Notay, Sally Hawkins, Sanjeek Bhaskar and Jim Mistry to name a few.
Chadha is exceptional ability to shed light on taboo subjects within the South Asian community through comedy. Subjects circling around interracial marriage, abuse, and now pressures surrounding physical appearance have been at the forefront of all of Chadha’s films; despite the seriousness of the themes often chosen by Chadha, she is somehow able to weave just enough comedy so that audiences are left howling with laughter as well as coming away with an open mind regarding pressing issues in our community.
It’s a Wonderful Afterlife is a film in which an overweight South Asian female feels pressure from her family to marry before it is too late. We cannot wait to see the much anticipated comedy; the film was shot in London and will be released to the rest of the world sometime in April.
